Establishing Connections with Local Youth Organizations and Community Groups and Forming a Youth Network

A meeting and awareness campaign on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), gender equality, adolescent health, prevention of child marriage, and social awareness was organized in Kuakata, Patuakhali. The day-long event was held on Monday at the Apon Bhubon Training Center hall room under the Youth Share-Net Project, organized by the Association of Voluntary Actions for Society (AVAS).

The program titled “Establishing Connections with Local Youth Organizations and Community Groups and Forming a Youth Network” was implemented by AVAS under the Youth Share-Net Project, initiated by RedOrange and supported by AmplifyChange.

The event began with a welcome speech by Ms. Moyuri Akter Tumpa, Project Officer of the Youth Share-Net Project. Discussions on SRHR, gender equality, adolescent health, prevention of child marriage, and social awareness were conducted by Mr. Monirul Islam, Project Manager of AVAS.

Among the guest speakers were Mr. Farid Uddin Bipu, General Secretary of Kalapara Television Journalist Forum, and Mr. Foraji Md. Imran, Finance Secretary of the Reporters Unity. Mr. Sujon Talukdar, Finance Officer of the Youth Share-Net Project, was also present and provided overall support throughout the event.

Representatives from local voluntary youth organizations of Patuakhali, Kalapara, and Kuakata, along with students from secondary schools and colleges, participated in the program. Through participatory discussions and experience-sharing sessions, the importance of youth leadership, awareness building, and the formation of an effective youth network was highlighted.

The speakers emphasized that active participation of youth can play a significant role in improving health awareness and creating positive social change. They also stated that today’s youth are the leaders of tomorrow and can contribute to building a more informed and equitable society by initiating awareness activities within their own families and communities.

At the end of the meeting, participants conducted an awareness campaign at different locations of Kuakata sea beach using placards, handmade posters, and various awareness messages. The campaign focused on raising public awareness against sexual harassment, child marriage, gender discrimination, and other social issues through slogans and public engagement activities.
